چکیده

Recent developments focusing on novel hydrogen storage media have helped to benchmark nanostructured carbon materials as one of the ongoing strategic research areas in science and technology. In particular, certain microporous carbon powders, carbon nanomaterials, and specifically carbon nanotubes stand to deliver unparalleled performance as the next generation of base materials for storing hydrogen. Accordingly, the main goal of this report is to overview the challenges, distinguishing traits, and apparent contradictions of carbon-based hydrogen storage technologies and to emphasize recently developed nanostructured carbon materials that show potential to store hydrogen by physisorption and/or chemisorption mechanisms. Specifically touched upon are newer material preparation methods as well as experimental and theoretical attempts to elucidate, improve or predict hydrogen storage capacities, sorption–desorption kinetics, microscopic uptake mechanisms and temperature–pressure–loading interrelations in nanostructured carbons, particularly microporous powders and carbon nanotubes. a 2009 International Association for Hydrogen Energy. 1. Introduction Thermodynamic analysis [1,2] of the most significant experimental data on the hydrogen sorption by graphites and related novel carbon-based nanomaterials at room temperatures and technological pressures (fullerenes, single-and multi-wall nanotubes, nanofibers, nanostructured graphites) is performed. The thermodynamic and kinetic (diffusion) characteristics of sorption processes ...

Synthesis and Characterization of SiO2-Carbon Nanotube Hybrides Using a Sol-Gel Method

This work is focused on synthesis of SiO2- CNT hybrides via sol-gel method. Homogeneous distribution of carbon nanotubes within silicon matrix was obtained by mixing the functionalized carbon nanotube (CNTCOOH) with active silicic acid followed by titration to the solution of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) under the average temperature condition of 80?C. Different ratios of multi-walled carbon nanot...

Increasing the hydrogen storage capacity of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) through facile impregnation by TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO nanocatalysts

Various nanocomposites of TiO2, ZnO and ZrO2 decorated single wall Carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were fabricated by facile and template free continuous ultrasonication/stirring of virgin metal oxide nanopowders and SWNTs in ethanol under UV-light illumination. The TEM micrographs showed that nanoparticles (NPs) were uniformly dispersed and bonded on the surface of SWNTs. The results of XRD as well a...

Hydrogen storage in carbon nanotubes with Ni nanoparticles by electrochemical

In this paper, the electrochemical hydrogen storage in nanocomposite materials was studied. Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) electrode was prepared by mixing with special composite. The optimum ratio of MWCNTs was estimated 30-70% (w/w) in the composite material. MWCNTs were synthesized by Chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The nanocomposite was homogenized by microwave. Cyclic voltammetry ...
